How to use Contraction Timer
Time each wave and the gap between them — Contred in the app — so you have a clear log to discuss with your care team.

When to use it
- You feel tightening or cramping and want to see if a pattern is forming
- Your clinician asked you to time contractions
- You want optional Contred Calm sounds during a session
Steps
- Open Contractions. In Care, open Contractions (unlocks in the 3rd trimester when your due date is set). From the web, use Open Contraction Timer if the app is installed.
- Start when a wave begins. When tightening starts, start the timer for that contraction. Mark when it eases so duration is recorded.
- Watch the interval. The gap between contractions appears as you log more waves. This is what many units ask about — how far apart and how long.
- Optional Calm sounds. If you want a steadier soundscape, open Contred Calm from the timer. It uses the Contred playlist only — not the full Music catalog.
- Save and share if needed. Keep the session in history. Export or share the log when you speak with your care team or head to the unit.
Tips
- Braxton Hicks can feel convincing — a log helps you describe what is happening without guessing.
- Follow your clinician’s “when to go in” guidance, not the app alone.
- You can practice the timer before labour so the taps feel familiar.
Important
Contred does not diagnose labour. If you have bleeding, severe pain, reduced movements, fluid leaking, or any emergency signs — or if your unit’s guidance says to go in — contact emergency services or your maternity team immediately.
